RE: Black tank leak

My experience has been that welding is best for PE. However, 3M DP-8005 is advertised to work on PE. I trust 3M enough to carry some with me for emergencies, but have never used it. Their DP100 is handy stuff. We used tons of it at work. But I have seen DP100 repair attempts on PE fail. Same for their DP100 plus. The data sheets for both products make no claim of its utility with PE as a substrate. I would still remove and weld, but would try the 3M 8005 if removing and welding was inconvenient. Where do you find it?3M DP-8005 on Amazon.com

RE: Is antenna booster really needed for DTV on batwing antenna?

I'm not sure why you would want to do that? RF is RF, regardless if it's analog or digital. There is no question that the batwing preamp makes a significant difference, and especially since you have already split your signal in half between two TV's already. The difference with DTV is if you don't have sufficient signal, you have no picture, period. At least in the analog world you might tolerate a little noise, not so anymore. yeah, I thought that instead of a snowy picture you would get a pixelated bunch of junk. bumpyWell, from actual tests (non-scientific) practical... In a "fringe" DTV reception area having the amp off you will have one of two conditions. 1. No picture at all (signal below the circuitry threshold). 2. Pixelation (big blocky color snow). Two things you can try are to scan with batwing (IE rotate it) or turn the antenna amp on. Oh, "Wally World" now has the RCA "mark II" DTV converter (At least in Tucson)... This one not only controls the volume and power on most TVs, it also has analog pass through (though it is not very good at the pass though function it does work). Ken

RE: Securing a Yamaha EF2400iS Genny

I think THIS might work.Notice too, that it comes with it's own chain collar so you can attach it to your genset. :W

RE: OPD a must on inboard tank?

ASME tanks (those permanently mounted to the frame) DO HAVE AN OPD "system" and have had so for many years (35 at least). It is different from the ones mandated on portable bottles and cylinders but operates in a similar manner as in... This system does not allow you to fill the tank more than 80% full of liquid propane. It starts venting liquid propane from a "valve" that is permanently built into the tank at the 80% full level. The actual valve may not be "physically at the 80% level but the tube opening is internally. Also due to the type of construction (much heavier duty steel) these tanks do not have to be re-certified unless there is visible damage or extensive deep rusting (minor surface rust is okay). Note: There are places that fill propane (other than propane companies) but, have "mis-trained" their personnel and will not fill ASME tanks because they don't have the "triangle" hand knob (that is mandated on the bottles/cylinders) on the tank. The placards that are prominently displayed at most of these places show only bottles and cylinders and show nothing about ASME tanks. Since they do show "tanks" on these placards, they won't fill them since "your tank" doesn't have this knob.

RE: Refer question

thiers a spec I posted one time from norcold, it was like 6 degrees front to back and 3 degrees side to side,,, check thier website for sureLet's be careful with this one... I do believe this is in relation to the fridge itself, not the RV. Most RVs have the fridge against the left or right wall, this makes the 6/3 fridge level spec off by 90 degrees from the RV.

RE: WINTER EXERCISING

I know... Just couldn't resist my self. I just got done fixing my laptop (video problem fixed with a spring clip) and saw this post when I logged on... Had to make sure it all worked. :) Ken BTW everyone... Electric start only does require a battery as stated above. It may not use the house battery. I have seen set ups that used a separate battery just for starting the genset. Reason being is that if you run down the house battery you can still start the genset to recharge.

RE: WINTER EXERCISING

Last time I started the generator the battery were turned off via the battery disconnect and didn't relaize until after the I had started the generator...magic! OK maybe my approach was all wrong, what I am tryin to say here is that there MUST be another battery SOMEWHERE. The one that you disconnected obviously does not serve the generator, (and probably is your "house" battery) But I know for a FACT, that an electric start generator will not start unless power is supplied to the starter!! So the power is coming from somewhere!! A battery that you have not found yet. But this battery still needs is proper care too! Look for it, I bet youll find it.There are facts and then there are facts... The old Onan CCK that I'm working on is an "electric start" that has a switch for manual start and a pulley on the end of the fan. No/dead battery, no problem, just switch to manual, wrap the pull rope around the pulley and pull the rope (a couple of times). Of course it's much easier in the summer when the oil is a little thinner (worked with these in the 70s in Montana and winter manual starts could work up a good sweat).

RE: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

My 76 Dodge "Concoure" has 2 drain valves. The forward most being the grey water and the rear one black water. I have the operating instructions for it if you think it will help.Mine has two tanks and two valves... When I originally got the RV they were separate but they face each other. The 3" (black) had a swivel elbow on the end and the 1.5" (grey) ended at the gate valve. It is still legal to dump grey water in NFs as long as you don't dump within 200ft of any body water so I ass/u/me that one of the POs changed the grey valve and just did not put an end on it. I ordered the 3"-1.5" "Y" valve assembly from PPL and added some black ABS pipe to the grey line so the two now connect. Ken

RE: Battery post corrosion - how to prevent?

Standard axle grease works just fine... Anyone who does their own maintenance should have a can hanging around the garage or workshop (or storage compartment for you full timers). Ken

RE: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

Now, I just use a cutting board over mine. That's what we used. Screwed rubber 'feet' to the bottom, matched to the sink, so it's held tightly in place going down the road.Leeann, That's all the one I got at Camping World is... The manufacturer just used square nuts in a slotted hole and rubber feet on all four corners so that it ends up as a "one size fits most" cover/cutting board. Adjust to "your" sink and then tighten screws in the feet until they don't move. Ken

RE: Norcold N510.3U

Norcold N510.3U is listed as a 12/120/LP fridge Size is: 42-5/8" H x 23-11/16" W x 24" D Model N510.3 Net Weight 86 lbs.,39 kg. Amps 120V/AC: 2.0 Amps 12V/DC: 14.2 LP Gas: YES Finding parts to convert to the older style non-electronic is a real PIA now as all the manufacturers seem to thing that you have to have all the "bells and whistles", stay in a resort and never want to boondock. Note: All modern RV refrigerators REQUIRE 12vdc to run the control board(s) even on 120vac or Propane (of course this leaves me out as mine doesn't have "control boards"). Ken

RE: Coleman powermate Endura 5500 watt

Voltage regulator? Just a guess, but when my TXP45 (120v) went out I was only getting 4 to 7 volts on the output. Ken

RE: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

Goreds, >Does anyone know if these older motorhomes had covers for the double kitchen sink to create more counter space? Mine had one for one sink. It was Formica on top of partible board and the board had been wet and was falling apart. Now, I just use a cutting board over mine. And it probably matched the counter top too... What they did back then was to cutout the sink covers from the counter top "blank" using a template to get two sink covers and then trimming out the rest in order to put the complete sink in. Remember, even 30 years ago they were trying to get the most from the least... Probably even advertised that they came with "matching" sink covers as an option.

Go to Camping World or any RV parts place and get the adjustable sink cover Here's the one from Camping world on mine http://thumb17.webshots.net/t/58/558/5/60/89/2374560890102590957iWOJmI_th.jpg Click on Picture to see larger view

RE: Need Onan generator voltage regulator.

Oh ya, there is nothing like backup. I've got a spare ignition module for the chassis sitting in a cargo bay along with a couple of belts and an upper & lower radiator hose. Ken

RE: Need Onan generator voltage regulator.

Go with flight systems. Best boards madeI agree with the that at least as far as the tech people... Sent the control board on my old TXP45 Generac to be fixed since it is no longer available and they called me at their expense to tell me the board was fine... They charged me a $25 diagnostic fee and sent it back (stated on their website). When I got the board back they had tagged it "good" labeled in indelible ink on the board the date and tech the did the C/O. I did notice that there seemed to be a couple of places that the solder on the PC board had been "re-flowed" that I don't remember being there when I sent it in so the tech may have found a couple of spots that he didn't like even though it checked "good" and gave me a "freebie" fix for it. The OP was asking for options and I just gave him another one.

RE: Coleman powermate Endura 5500 watt

Good luck with it Lynn and hopefully you didn't get "stuck"... I really hate it when I buy something "name brand" on sale and then find out that the company no longer supports it (due to age, newer model, etc) or the company has gone "belly up". Been there, done that, got the old hardware to prove it. :( Ken

RE: Help me understand tech speak

Well, consider yourself lucky. I bought two NAPA coach batts, as NAPA was the only store open . They work well, but I went to the NAPA website and asked for the full specs. Got ignored. Twice. Called the store. They are clueless. Please tell me where you got the specs. I understand Exide makes most of NAPAs batteries. I'd like a NAPA chart for reference.Click on the link in MELM's post. Goes to the Exide battery website. Nothing says that the people behind the counter (even at NAPA though it is unusual for them not to) have to know where get "all" the answers, just the most common ones (like "will this battery fit my car/truck/RV").

RE: Non-potable water in white hose

...I also realize with my disorder i'm in the minority as far as having to be careful. Even then, i'd soak the inside in a bleach solution for about an hour and be done. Even I'M not that paranoid!Add me the "minority" list too... I have a suppressed immune system due to a kidney transplant and I'm "reasonably" careful not paranoid about it. Granted I won't drink from a swamp nor help someone that needs help dumping their tanks without using gloves, but I'm not a fanatic about being careful either. It's called "acceptable risk". Seek information (you're doing that here and maybe a "real" professional) and make "your" decision. I use a rule that I was taught many years ago... "When in doubt, throw it out". It works for food and using it for other things like the subject of this thread I'm still here. It might be a little more expensive but that's my choice. Ken
